EMPOWERING MSES IN THE MANUFACTURING SECTOR

The MSEA Board, led by the Chairman Mr. James Mureu and CEO Mr. Henry Rithaa, visited the MSEA Kariobangi Centre of Excellence and the Karibu Business Support Centre on a familiarization tour. The visit aimed to assess the facilities, engage with staff, and understand the needs of MSEs operating within the centre.

The Board commended the capabilities and expertise of enterprises incubated at the Kariobangi Centre, which specializes in steelwork, leather manufacturing, furniture production, and mechanical engineering. They reiterated the government’s commitment to establishing such centres to scale up production, foster innovation, and expand market access for MSEs.

The Kariobangi Centre of Excellence serves as a model manufacturing hub, offering business incubation, common user industrial equipment, structured workspaces, and technical capacity-building to enhance the standards and production capacity of MSEs. Among its notable incubatees are Pyntal Design and a body-building workshop responsible for crafting windows for all electric buses in Kenya.

The Karibu Business Support Centre is a one-stop shop for MSMEs seeking public services, including business registration, tax compliance, branding, and financial support. The model brings together government agencies within the MSME ecosystem, offering services under one roof to eliminate the administrative and logistical hurdles faced by these entrepreneurs when accessing these critical services.

The Board reaffirmed MSEA’s commitment to strengthening these centers as part of its broader strategy to enhance industrial growth and economic empowerment for MSMEs in Kenya.
