BODABODA EMPOWERMENT FORUM EMBU COUNTY

MSEA CEO Mr. Henry Rithaa accompanied by the MSEA Embu team joined H.E the Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Principal Secretary State Department for MSMEs Development Susan Mang’eni and Embu County Governor Hon. Cecily Mbarire for a Bodaboda Empowerment forum in Runyenjes town.

During the forum MSEA distributed 20 car wash machines to 5 associations, each representing one of Embu County’s five sub-counties. This initiative aims to support bodaboda riders in diversifying their income streams by exploring value-adding opportunities within the transport sector ultimately contributing to their formalization.

In collaboration with the County Government of Embu, MSEA will also provide training for bodaboda Jua Kali associations. The training will focus on financial management, customer service, and business management, fostering discipline and professionalism in the sector while enhancing regulatory compliance.

Beyond offering self-employment opportunities to youth, the bodaboda sector sustains a vast ecosystem of sales and service providers, creating additional jobs and ensuring affordable and efficient mobility for both people and goods in urban and rural areas. According to a study by Car and General, the bodaboda transport sector creates one million direct jobs for riders making an average income of Sh1 billion daily, which translates to Sh365 billion annually, that equates to 3.4 per cent of Kenya’s GDP.

Accompanying H.E the Deputy President were Hon. Moses Kuria senior presidential advisor in the Council of Economic Advisors, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah leader of majority in the National Assembly, CEO Uwezo Fund Mr. Lengapiani Ag CEO Kenya Industrial Estates Mr. Mativo among other notable dignitaries from the National and County governments.
