MSEA AND GIZ EXPLORE NEW APPROACHES TO ENHANCING MSMEs ENTREPRENEURIAL CAPACITY

MSEA CEO Mr. Henry Rithaa and the Management team from the Business Development, Marketing, and Trade Department hosted a team from GIZ, led by Head of Component, GIZ Programme for Promotion of Self-Employment and Entrepreneurship, Irene Omogi, GIZ Technical Advisor Irene Mwatha and GIZ Consultant Moritz Fitchl from GFA Consulting.

MSEA in collaboration with German Cooperation (GIZ) and GFA Consulting Group, is currently implementing a capacity-building program known as SME Loop. This initiative is designed to support MSEs in Nairobi County, particularly in the manufacturing and value addition sectors. The program aims to enhance entrepreneurial skills through structured training, personalized coaching, and continuous mentorship. These interventions help MSEs improve business analysis, adopt effective growth strategies, and strengthen their operational efficiency. MSEA staff serve as trainers, engaging participants in practical activities to ensure a deeper understanding and application of the concepts taught.

The discussions focused on strengthening the capacity of MSEA’s technical staff to better serve MSMEs through the Authority’s key services. Among the key areas explored was the development of customized business support tools, including business diagnostic frameworks, financial planning templates, and digital marketing strategies tailored to entrepreneurs’ needs.

The integration of digital solutions was also a central theme, with deliberations on how technology can enhance business operations, improve market access, and streamline service delivery for MSMEs. Additionally, the meeting addressed policy and program alignment, emphasizing the need to synchronize MSEA’s capacity-building initiatives with broader national and international MSME development strategies to ensure long-term sustainability. Another critical area of discussion was the strengthening of public-private partnerships to enhance technical support, increase market access, and establish financial linkages for MSMEs.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of all stakeholders to fostering a more robust entrepreneurial ecosystem by equipping MSEs with the necessary skills, knowledge, and tools for sustainable growth and competitiveness.
