MSEA NYOTA Project Coordinator, Mr. Patrick Kamenyi, led a monitoring exercise at Kibabii Vocational Training Center on the final day of the NYOTA Business Development Skills Training in Bungoma. He guided the youth on the next steps after training, including the grant disbursement process and a two-month mentorship program. During this period, mentors will visit beneficiaries at their businesses to support them until they can operate independently. Mr. Kamenyi emphasized that the youth will also benefit from peer support through linkages with other MSMEs and inclusion in MSEA’s database for continued assistance. He further noted that H.E. the President remains committed to ensuring a transparent online application process and empowering young people to establish sustainable businesses that create jobs for themselves and others.

Beneficiaries at Kibabii expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts, with the center recording the highest number of participants in the county. The four-day training in Bungoma County was held across Kanduyi, Bumula, Kabuchai, Mt. Elgon, Tongaren, Sirisia, Webuye East, and Kimilili constituencies, reaching over 1,000 youth.

Participants engaged in lively discussions during the training sessions on different topics geared towards preparing them for their business. They were trained on entrepreneurship, marketing, and market access sharing their business experiences, challenges such as limited capital and access to markets, and lessons on building an entrepreneurial mindset through research and storytelling. The sessions also covered essential business skills, including financial management, business planning, leadership, teamwork, communication, and digital marketing.
