The Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Cooperatives Simon Chelugui graced the closing ceremony of the Taskforce for the establishment of Small Business Development Centres in Sarova Woodlands Nakuru.

The Taskforce was formed by the Cabinet Secretary after a learning-trip to Washington D.C. United States where MSEA Director General/ CEO was appointed to be the chair of the project. The workshop comes as a culmination of activities by the taskforce which aim at promoting and developing the micro, small and medium enterprises.

The Cabinet Secretary was joined by Governor H.E. Benjamin Cheboi of Baringo County, Deputy Governor H.E Reuben Ngatia of Laikipia County, Deputy Governor H.E Mathaara Mwangi of Nyandarua County, Hon. Kimani Kuria, Molo MP, Hon. Muruiri Kuria CEC in charge of Trade, Culture and Tourism – Nakuru County, MSEA Chairman James Mureu, MSEA DG/CEO Mr. Henry Rithaa.

“The government is keen on providing interventions for our small businesses such as creating markets for MSME wares, creating financial inclusion through ease and access of affordable credit, business development services, and enhanced formalization.” Noted the CS. “Through this project, Kenya positions itself not only as being the first in Africa to implement that model but also for the Asian continent. It is worthwhile to note that this gives our MSMEs an edge over MSMEs in the neighbouring countries and thus creating a comparative advantage in ways of doing business.” He added.

He noted that the Small Business Development Centre ( SBDC) model will be a graduation step to implementation of the NYOTA and KJET projects whose approval is underway at the Cabinet.

This is a clarion call for MSEA fraternity to continue learning about the SBDC as it complements the programmes that the Authority has been having for the micro and small enterprises in the country.
