LONDIANI CIDC SET TO KICKSTART DAIRY PRODUCTS AND HONEY PROCESSING

The Londiani Constituency Industrial Development Center (CIDC) is now set to kickstart large scale dairy products and Honey processing value addition. The Center was officially launched on 17th June 2021 by the Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development, Ms. Betty Maina who also unveiled two machines for dairy products and honey processing.

The CS said the facility is a testament that product diversification empowers small holder farmers for sustainable and profitable farming. The facility is occupied by Ruskebei Dairy Farmers Cooperative Society. It receives over 3500 litres of milk daily from farmers in Londiani and its environs. 90% of the milk is sold to KCC and Brookside while 10% processed into yoghurt and fermented milk (Mala).

Although the facility is equipped with a milk cooler and pasteurizer, there was need for additional machines to fulfil the demands of value addition and increase the shelf life of the products. The equipment where donated by Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI).

Through one Ministerial approach, The Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development aims to conduct various trainings for the over 6000 members of the society on product branding, standardization and registration of trademarks. This will be done in partnership with the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI), Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI) and the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA)

The MSEA CEO, Mr. Henry Rithaa said the Authority is promoting manufacturing through supporting Constituency level value addition through MSE infrastructure development as an employment creation strategy. MSEA is also partnering with other Government agencies and the private sector to bridge skills and financing gaps to further empower the sector.
