Kenya has been keen on the development and promotion of the Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) growth through various interventions provided by the Government through the Ministry of Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. To map out the percentage of MSEs in the country, The Government is conducting a massive countrywide registration process that will inform areas of intervention, partnerships and collaboration that support growth of the Micro and Small Enterprises in the Country.

Speaking during the Launch of the countrywide registration of MSEs, The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Cooperative, Micro Small Medium Enterprises, Simon Chelugui said the registration process will be carried out by the Micro Small Enterprises Authority which houses the office of the Registrar of MSEs in the Country. The office is mandated to register MSE Associations and umbrella organizations in Kenya as provided under the MSEs Act of 2012.
The CS mentioned that the government will support the process of registration of MSEs that will facilitate the sector to benefit from government interventions which include AGPO, business financing, common user facilities and machines among others. He also added that the launch is timely as it comes at a time when the country is about to witness the launch of the 3rd product of the Hustler fund for Group loans.
The CS encouraged all the unregistered small businesses in Kenya to register through the Registrar of MSEs’s online platform registrar.msea.go.ke to be able to harness the various benefits and interventions provided by the Government.

During the launch, MSEA and Kenya National Federation of Juakali Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The MOU signing will be significant towards continuous support for the growth of the JuaKali and MSE sector. It will facilitate collaboration between the two entities in various areas, including training and capacity building, access to credit, and market linkages. Through the MOU, MSEA will work with Kenya National Federation of Juakali Associations to formalize JuaKali and MSE businesses and provide them with the necessary recognition. This will enable entrepreneurs in the sector to access government services, including financial support, training, and access to markets.
