The official opening ceremony was held on December 11th, 2022, and was officially launched by the Prime Minister of Uganda, H.E Robinah Nabbanja, who represented the President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Museveni.

The President’s speech, which was read by the Prime Minister, emphasized the importance of MSMEs in the region, noting that they contribute 60% of the East African Community’s GDP and are responsible for creating eight out of every ten new jobs. He emphasized the need for value addition, innovation, and competitive prices in order to increase the participation of MSMEs in global trade.

The President also highlighted the importance of regional integration and trade, stating that the EAC is the most robust regional block in Africa with a rapidly growing membership. He emphasized the need for the “Buy East African Build East Africa” theme, as it aligns with the Africa Agenda 2063, which aims to transform Africa into a global powerhouse and increase intra-African trade.

Overall, he noted that the trade fair would serve as an important platform for MSMEs in the East African Community to showcase their products and innovations, while also promoting regional integration and trade.

It is evident that the development of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) is fundamental to the economic growth and success of the area, and it is vital that they be supported and encouraged to flourish.
