FROM PASSION TO PROSPERITY: THE SUCCESS STORY OF JUSTIN MAGIRI AND MILLIMAG RABBIT FARM

Mombasa County MSE Justin Magiri, the founder of Millimag Rabbit Farm, is revolutionizing the world of cuniculture – the practice of rearing and breeding rabbits for meat and wool.

Magiri started his farm in Mombasa Bamburi Mwisho, near Masjidnoor Mosque with the help of his father after losing employment in Nairobi. From a young age, he had always had a dream and a passion for rabbits. He loved everything about them, from their soft fur to their playful personalities. So when he lost his job, it was an opportunity to turn his dream into a reality. He started with just three rabbits, but over the course of two years, he had amassed a total of 882 rabbits.

Rabbit farming is a lucrative and sustainable business, with rabbits being a fast-growing, low-maintenance animal with a high food-to-meat conversion ratio. Their meat is tasty, nutritious, and contains a high percentage of easily digestible protein with a low fat and calorie content. Rabbit urine and manure are also great fertilizers, improving soil structure and containing high levels of nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium.

In addition to selling rabbit meat, Justin has diversified his business by offering rabbit delicacies, such as rabbit wraps and rabbit sausages and even renting out his rabbits to hotels for special events like Easter and Christmas. He also sells rabbit pelts and rabbit manure as farm fertilizers which are in high demand.

Justin hasn’t stopped there. He saw the opportunity in adding even more value to his products and began selling rabbit skin and rabbit skin products like hats and sandals. His impact goes beyond just his farm, he has researched the economic and health benefits of rabbit farming and shares this knowledge with other farmers and consumers interested in this venture. Through his farm’s diversification, he has also provided employment and a source of income for others.

Today, Justin’s Millimag Rabbit Farm is a thriving business with a loyal customer base for its high-quality rabbit breeds, including the Dutch Rabbit, Flemish Giant, Checkered Giant, New Zealand White, Chinchilla and Palomino Rabbits. They also have an office in Nairobi Ngong road Adams next to Catholic Church and an eatery for delicious rabbit delicacies like rabbit pizza, rabbit tikka, rabbit teriyaki, rabbit kienyeji, and rabbit burgers among others.

Justin is proud of all that he has achieved and is grateful for the support of his family and community.
