MSEA Nairobi office in collaboration with HelpAge International and Kibera Day Care Centre for The Elderly, Kenyan Aged Require Information, Knowledge, and Advancement (KARIKA) and other stakeholders conducted Entrepreneurship Training sessions for elderly individuals in Kibera, Riruta Satellite, and Toi Market. The training focused on the selection, planning, and management of income-generating activities to provide participants with the necessary tools and knowledge to grow their businesses and increase revenue effectively.

Head of MSEA Nairobi regions Ms. Janet Kamotho led the training session, which covered developing thriving business ideas, business plans, customer relations and retention, planning and marketing strategies, growth opportunities, sources of finance, and how to mitigate business challenges. The training also highlighted best practices in running profitable and sustainable enterprises, tax compliance, quality assurance, and adherence to quality standards of production. The group was also trained on table banking by Joyful Women.

The participants also engaged in group discussions to exchange ideas and enhance their businesses. The elderly persons are involved in diverse businesses such as soap making, mwiko manufacturing, grocery sales, souvenir basketry, beadwork, kitchen gardening, and general shops.

MSEA Nairobi office engaged the groups further to formalize and register them as associations under the Office of the Registrar of MSEs.
