CELEBRATING GROWTH AND INNOVATION ON WORLD MSMES DAY 2023

This year’s #WorldMSMEsDay2023 celebrations in Kenya were spearheaded by the Ministry of Co-operatives and MSMEs Development, in recognition of the invaluable contribution of the sector, which constitutes 98% of all businesses, creating 30% of the jobs annually as well as contributing 3% of the 6.4% annual GDP growth.

The celebrations held in Kitengela, Kajiado County were officiated by Principal Secretary State Department for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Ms Susan Mang’eni who was representing the Chief Guest Cabinet Secretary Hon. Simon Chelugui.

During the ceremony, the Principal Secretary presided over the handing over of common user machines to Kitengela Juakali Association, Kajiado Central Juakali Association and Ngong Juakali Association. The machines handed over include carwash machines, wood router, arc welding machines, bench grinder, bench vice, universal vehicle diagnostic kit, oxygen acetylene welding set, consumables items, electrical tool box and mechanical tool boxes. In addition, the MSEs along with financial support advanced by the Youth Fund, Uwezo Fund and Kenya Industrial Estates.

The Principal Secretary Ms. Susan Mangeni stated that the Ministry is committed to enhancing cottage-level manufacturing with common user machinery to refine the production processes and facilitate the aggregation of MSMEs leveraging the existing network of over 200 Constituency Industrial Development Centres (CIDCs) run by the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority, to support and promote value addition.

The PS was accompanied by Kajiado County Deputy Governor Hon. Martin Moshisho, Women Representative Hon. Leah Sankaire, Members of Parliament for Kajiado East and North Constituencies Hon. Maimai Hamisi and Hon. Onesmus Ngogoyo respectively. Agencies under the State Department were also present, led by MSEA Board Chairman Mr. James Mureu, Director General MSEA Mr. Henry Rithaa, CEO Youth Fund Mr. Josiah Moriasi, CEO Kenya Industrial Estates Dr. Parmain ole Narikae, CEO Uwezo Fund Mr. Peter Lengapiani and Kenya Institute of Business Training (KIBT) Director Dr. Catherine Waweru.
