The Biashara Centre is an initiative by the Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development for essential business and trade services. The one-stop-shop serves MSMEs seeking public services such as business registration, tax compliance, branding and financial support. The model has Government agencies offering these services under one roof to alleviate the administrative and logistical challenges of seeking these services in multiple locations.
The Nairobi Biashara Centre at Kariobangi MSE Centre of Excellence hosts 11 agencies, each playing a crucial role in offering government services to MSEs. They include Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS), Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Numerical Machining Complex (NMC), Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest), Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI), Kenya Industrial Estates (KIE) and Export Processing Zone Athi-river (EPZA)
MSEA Kariobangi staff welcoming the MSEs for the business day and one on one with the government agencies at the Biashara Centre.
The Centre hosted an event dubbed ‘The Business Day’, an approach adopted by the agencies as a way of educating MSEs and MSE Associations within the Nairobi region on the role of each Agency in the MSE ecosystem while also marketing the Centre.
Centre manager, Tabitha Gicheru addressing the MSEs gathered for the training, encouraged them to sit through all the presentations to have a great understanding of what each Agency offers. She also encouraged them to familiarize with the Centre to reap full benefits.
