The 5th SMEs Conference and Expo organized by Nation Media Group (NMG) in collaboration with the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMES Development and other stakeholders was launched by Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs Development Simon Chelugui on 20th March 2023.The theme for this years expo was “Advancing sustainable economic growth for SMEs through Green Financing Initiatives”. Present at the launch were NMG CEO Stephen Gitagama, MSEA CEO Henry Rithaa, Uwezo Fund CEO Peter Lengapiani, KIE Ag. CEO Mativo Kioko, and board members from respective agencies.
Mr. Gitagama expressed gratitude to the CS for continuous support towards MSMEs growth in Kenya through various initiatives such as the Annual exhibition, which grants MSEs the opportunity to showcase their products, network, and learn from their peers to improve their enterprises. He encouraged all MSEs participating in the Expo to seize the opportunities to learn and share knowledge on best practices to grow their businesses.

Speaking during the launch, MSEA CEO Henry Rithaa congratulated NMG for their continuous partnership towards MSMEs growth. He noted this year’s theme is a great inspiration for MSMEs; he called on all actors to inculcate climate-smart investments into their business mechanisms and systems with clear follow-up strategies. The Chief Guest speaker, Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs Development CS Simon Chelugui, appreciated NMG for bringing on board all MSMEs and stakeholders to display their products, network, and receive feedback from customers.
The exhibition also offers the MSMEs an opportunity to interact with potential financiers that can help them scale up their businesses, as well as other Government agencies that support and improve product quality and standardization.
The CS emphasized that Government has prioritized MSMEs as a key sector that supports the economic development of the country through the creation of 80% employment, supporting livelihoods. He noted that the Government is undertaking various initiatives to strengthen financing mechanisms to stimulate the sector and provide access to affordable credits and market access. Some of the initiatives include KJET and NYOTA, which will contribute to the growth of the MSME sector. The CS reiterated that the Government is ready to work with all stakeholders to support MSMEs sector growth for greater impact.
