23 ARTISANS TRAINED ON LATHE MACHINERY USAGE IN KISUMU COUNTY

The Authority through Kariobangi Centre of Excellence has trained 23 micro small enterprises specializing in metal and fabrication sector on usage of Lathe Machine in Kisumu County. The capacity building programme will now enable the trainees to improve the quality and standards of the products to meet market requirements. The participants were trained in the following stages of Lathe operations; Boring, Facing, Centre Drilling and Chamfering. They were also trained in other social cross cutting issues like HIV/AIDS, Alcohol and Drug Abuse and Entrepreneurial skills.

The training took place at Kisumu Central Constituency Industrial Development Center (CIDC).The Authority equipped the center with a lathe machine to operationalize and support the MSEs at the site. Currently the CIDC is occupied by the Kisumu Centre Juakali Artisans Association. The trainers included Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Kenya Institute of Business Training (KIBT) and NCBA Bank.

The trainings will be replicated in other CIDCs towards operationalization of the Constituency Industrial Development Centers. The mapped CIDCs include Muhoroni CIDC, Nyando CIDC Nyakach CIDC and Seme CIDC.

The event provided an opportunity to sensitize and mobilize MSEs in the County to register with the Registrar of MSEs for structured support and interventions.

Kariobangi Centre of Excellence, is a modern centre for manufacturing, technical capacity building and learning, that also hosts the Nairobi Biashara Centre that was developed to support entrepreneurship growth for micro and small enterprises.
